We Started This Because We Lived It

MyHOAExpert was founded by Mike Schwab, who spent years running a homeowners association management company, ProHOAm, Inc., based in Fort Collins, Colorado. But the story starts before that — with a homeowner who just wanted a peaceful place to live.

A Rough Start

In 2005, Mike moved from Kansas to Colorado with no experience with homeowners associations. He landed in a neighborhood that was, in a word, a mess: the HOA was financially broke, board members were suing each other using HOA funds, bills were going unpaid, and homeowners were finding utility shut-off notices taped to their front doors.

A Better Way

Rather than simply move on, Mike saw an opportunity. He believed that combining the right technology with genuine human kindness could turn struggling associations around — and give homeowners the quality, high-touch service they deserved. The idea caught on quickly. Within a short time, his management company was serving 40 HOAs.

From Management Company to Software Company

As the portfolio grew, Mike saw a bigger opportunity: the same technology that helped his own communities thrive could help HOAs everywhere. He acquired a small software company and began building the tools that would become MyHOAExpert — carrying the same vision forward.
